Raktamokshan is one of the very effective treatment comes under Panchkarma explained in Ayurved which acts as a curative as well as preventive. It is an effective blood purification therapy, in which carefully controlled removal of small quantities of blood is conducted to neutralise accumulated Pitta toxins of many blood-borne diseases. It helps to clear the dosha residing in the shakha that is deeper tissues and its best remedial treatment is raktashuddhi.

Definition of Raktamokshan
Raktamokshana derives its name from Rakta meaning 'blood' and mokshana meaning 'liberation'. This treatment literally 'releases' impure blood from the system.
Raktamokshan Techniques
It is done using different methods like applying one or a few leeches( जलौकावचारण )on a specific part of your body, puncturing any of your veins ( सिराव्यध )or making several small punctures (वेधन )on a given part of your body in order to facilitate small quantities of blood to flow out of your body. Raktamokshana is a blood cleansing procedure. It can be done for preventive or curative purposes. Rakta means blood and moksha implies releasing. Therefore, Raktamokshana is the therapeutic procedure of releasing blood from the body.
