What is Kshar and Ksharkarma
Kshar It is used in the "Kshara Karma" procedure to treat conditions like hemorrhoids, fissures, and fistulas, as it has properties that can cut, incise, and scrape tissue. It is also applied externally as a medicinal paste or dressing (Ksharapichu) or used in a medicated thread (Kshara Sutra) for a less invasive surgical approach. Uses of Kshara External application: Applied directly to the affected area to treat ano-rectal disorders such as hemorrhoids and fistulas. Used in the form of a medicated thread (Kshara Sutra) to treat conditions like fistula-in-ano by cutting through the tissue over time. Used as a medicated dressing or gauze (Ksharapichu) to clean and debride non-healing ulcers. Internal consumption:Used in formulations like tablets (Kshara Gutika), pastes, and medicated oils. Traditionally used for conditions like ascites and internal growths (gulma). Other applications: Used to remove undesirable growths like warts, adenoids, and tonsillitis. Its ability to cut and remove tissue makes it useful in places where sharp surgical instruments are difficult to use. How it is preparedThe dried parts of medicinal plants that exude a milky sap are burnt into ash. The ash is then dissolved in water and filtered. The mixture is boiled until all the water has evaporated, leaving a fine, alkaline powder. This powder is stored in an airtight container. Key considerations Alkaline nature: Kshara is highly alkaline, with a pH similar to a baking soda solution. Potential risks: It is considered a potent medicine, and incorrect preparation or application can be very dangerous. Contraindications: Its use is contraindicated in certain conditions like bleeding disorders, eye diseases, and in debilitated individuals or during pregnancy. "
